Accepting Cultural Diffusion

Acceptance is an essential ingredient when it comes to living harmoniously with different cultural groups and promoting intercultural communications. We must learn what it is to embrace the differences of other individuals and groups just as they must embrace our differences. Cultural diffusion intermingles these differences, bringing them together and making them a part of other cultures. Whether we know it or not, we have been practicing this art of diffusion for thousands of years already. However, it seems now as a society we exhibit resistance to this practice and stay committed only to what we know rather than branching out into the acceptance of the things that are less familiar. Rather than resist, it is important to engage in multicultural communication and learn from others while offering an education in our own cultures. This sharing and combining of traits, objects, behaviors, and more is an effort made to understand cultures that are foreign to us. With open minds we can come together and learn from one another, embracing differences and making examples for others.

Encouraging Multicultural Communication

Sometimes change begins on a small level. As it begins to grow, others catch on and grasp the passion and fervor of those who originally embarked on making a difference. It is the same with multicultural communication. It begins with a few who are willing to bridge the gaps between cultures, reaching out to communicate with others and learn about them. Communication can be in the form of the media or simple one-on-one communication. No matter how it starts, taking a chance can mean making a big change, one that not only affects your own life, but the lives of those around you. Influence your circle of friends by embracing cultural diffusion, show your family, coworkers, and strangers what it is to not practice discrimination against others from a different culture, and see how change can take place.
