Media Representation of Muslims

The media is a driving force when it comes to shaping our thoughts and opinions about people, places, and issues. Often, if we are not careful we will allow the media to act as our sole source of where we go to form our opinions. When it comes to topics related to the media representation of Muslims and other groups, relying solely on the media is a close-minded approach when it comes to cultural relations. It is essential that we get information from other sources and research for ourselves when we need more information regarding ethnic groups and what we can do to integrate our cultures. Whether it's Muslims in UK communities or others, we can learn from one another and establish culturally diverse environments, setting examples for others.

Working together: Muslims in UK

Cultures working together bring about a diversity that can only be achieved through a willingness to be involved in one another's lives. At times this willingness is born out of a progressive culture that is willing to do away with the some of the boundaries of history. Muslims in UK communities and other members of ethnic communities in the United Kingdom are finding more hope in the progressive attitudes that come from the generations of ethnicities and diverse cultures in our nation. Progress takes learning from one another and about one another, from cultural differences to political differences, including Sharia Law. UK progression in the realm of cultural diversity comes from the relationships we have formed with one another and as a result, the education we provide one another. We may not agree with all that our fellow citizens practice, but learning to live together is a valuable life lesson.

Sharia Law, UK Issues

EMMA encourages the learning and sharing of information across cultures. Many times we take a stand on something before we really know what it is we are supporting. This applies across the board, from cultural issues, to political issues, to issues pertaining to Sharia Law. UK residents are exposed to a range of cultures and religions and are confronted with the issues that come along with living in this diverse nation. Taking the time to learn for ourselves rather than relying on the media representation of Muslims and other groups means acting as informed citizens who can then set the example for others looking to take action.
